Platform Transformation

What device do you use the most during the day?

We know, it’s the smartphone! We use it to browse, we use it for social networks, we use it with WhatsApp …
According to a research conducted by Hootsuit this year, it appears that in Italy there are more smartphones than people. Just think that there are fifty million people connected of which thirty-five million are active on social media. If you are wondering what the use of the smartphone has to do with manufacturing, then I ask you another question… What device do the operators use in the factory today? The answer is outdated devices.

I am Enrico Aramini CEO and founder of HTC and I strongly believe that companies can gain a significant competitive advantage from innovation and digital manufacturing. In this video I want to share with you why and how we need to equip operators with a smartphone instead of a PC or tablet or even worse, an Excel sheet or a piece of paper. With this video you will also be able to understand how to take advantage of the new digital world by bringing innovation in manufacturing in order to increase efficiency, enable growth, decrease stress and therefore reduce costs, but you will also have satisfied managers, better products, happy customers and you will increase your sales.

Why does the shop floor need innovation?

Well, because the market requests flexibility, customized articles, waste reduction, pushed automation and advanced supply chain.
This all leads to increased complexity because we insert new products and make smaller production batches. So more frequent machine set-up and more targeted quality checks. The consequence of all this complexity is that there are more things to do, more software applications often not integrated with each other and therefore more errors, more stress, more disaffection from work. We are going to crush if we are not making any improvements.

What does to crush mean?

It means having defective products, increasing costs, missing growth opportunities, delays in deliveries and ultimately: exiting the market.

How do we innovate the manufacturing?

By clearing the concretions, making the processes fluid. In a word simplifying! We need to take advantage of the technologies available to everyone such as smartphones which, among other things, fit comfortably in your pocket.

The solution to apply is very simple, it is a matter of moving all the complexity to a cloud platform and using a simple app where you can choose what you want the plant to do and send it directly and quickly the commands.

This is what we do every day strive to have happy operators because with happy operators we have: more efficiency, we enable growth, we decrease stress, so we have more satisfied managers, happy customers, better products, increase sales and to top it off we reduce costs.

This is our goal.
